The aim of the Food Safety Service is to ensure that all food and drink which is prepared, manufactured or offered for sale within the Borough is fit for human consumption and free from contamination and therefore will not result in food poisoning to any consumers.
This is achieved by:

  • The investigation of food / food premises complaints.
  • Undertaking food safety inspections.
  • Food sampling.
  • Responding to food hazard warnings.
  • Ensuring that all food businesses are registered.
  • Undertaking Food Hygiene Training.
  • Giving customer advice on food safety issues.

This then allows the team to fulfil their key objectives within the Borough, which are to promote good practice and enforce compliance with food legislation in food businesses.
